Hi, I’m Kara. I created this blog to share what I’ve been making in my kitchen, and I hope you find it useful. I started my culinary journey when I was about 14 years old, with the purchase of a Chinese cookbook I still have on the bookshelf today. At the time my family was having almost weekly dinners at a local Chinese restaurant, and we became friends with the owners. One slow day, they invited me and my brother to visit the kitchens and peek behind the scenes. I was fascinated by the giant woks and stockpots and the staff stir frying and food prepping novel ingredients with lightning speed. It inspired me to try cooking at home, and I had to try something never before prepared in our kitchen. I remember one of my first dishes, a fish that still had the head attached. I wasn’t used to my meals staring at me, but the flavor was delicious and it encouraged me to try more new recipes.
This blog will include my own recipes as well as ones I’ve modified, so that I can heavily credit the delightful people who created the original recipes. I also want to share some regular recipes in my rotation that I make exactly as written, typically with a few extra notes of my own to make it easier to prepare. I prefer exact ingredients and often use a food scale to weigh things, especially when baking.
I look forward to sharing what I’ve been making in my kitchen. Thank you for visiting.
